How to Become an Expert in Your Field as a Virtual Assistant
If you are looking to start a virtual assistant business that specializes in the mental health field you will need to be an expert in that field. But how in the world can you be an expert at something you are just starting off with? Knowing that you need to be an expert, in the beginning, will allow you to shape your skill set and take over the market. When I began my business I was not aware that I needed to be an expert. Once I figured that out (2 years in) I did everything I possibly could to position myself as the expert. Below I have listed what helped me the most with my expert positioning.
Read- If you know me you know that I can not go a day without reading something! I am kinda addicted to reading. Especially once I figured out that I can do anything with a good book at my side. Whatever you may be currently struggling with, there is a book you can read to form a solution. Often times when I read and journal I notice that I become super creative. I take the ideas from the books I read and form my own unique solution. I use what I am reading as a guide to help me with what I am currently struggling with. Sometimes all it takes is a moment to unblock your thoughts. Now if you are anything like Blair you will find yourself searching YouTube or Pinterest instead of picking up a book and that is completely fine also. Whatever works for you to strengthen your knowledge is the direction you should go in.
Research- When you were in school and you had to write an essay you would do all types of research projects just to get all of the facts together to write a great essay. Same thing goes for starting a business. Even if you think you know what direction you should go in, do some research to back up your thoughts. This will also help you to be confident in your decisions and know that you are going down the right path.
Be a Source of Educational Value- The best way to be an expert is to educate others on your knowledge. This will build trust with your audience and can also play as a marketing technique. It will also help you to create content that connects with your audience. One of the best ways to showcase your expert skills.
Focus on One Thing at a Time- You are not going to become an expert overnight. I hate to be the one to break it to you but it just doesn't work that way. It takes time and discipline. It is very important that you focus on learning one thing at a time. When I first started in 2016 virtual work was really not common. I can not tell you the number of times someone was extremely confused when I told them what I did for a living. Now it seems so normal. So when I first started I had to learn how to run a business from a virtual setting. Then I had to learn who I wanted to assist. On top of that, I then had to learn the skill set and knowledge needed to assist in the mental health field. If I tried to take on learning all of that at once I would have failed. Instead, I decided to take it one step at a time mastering every part effortlessly. It is possible with the right mindset and work ethic.
See What Others Are Doing (Competition)- If you do not know who your competition is and what they are doing then you are doing it wrong. I subscribed to some of my biggest competitor's email list. Yeah, that's right I did it. Don't act like they didn't subscribe to my newsletter also because they have. The reason I did this is simple. I want to know what they are doing and currently offering. It also helped me to get a better understanding of when they send out their newsletter so that my newsletter offers do not get pushed down. I send my emails on Tuesday they sent theirs on Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday. This information better helps me to position my offers accordingly.
Seek Guidance from an Expert- When I first started my business I told myself I did not have it in the budget to hire a coach. I was going to do it all by myself. I could figure it out. I was right kinda. Long story short. Biggest mistake ever. I did figure it out on my own eventually but boy did I struggle and then I still needed guidance. Two years into my business I decided to hire a coach and it completely changed the way I ran my business. If I could go back I would hire my coach on day 1! That is how much of a difference it made. I know it seems like a huge investment but it is well worth it. It will pay itself off quickly and will continue to yield results.
Manifest Your Dream - What you focus on you create more of! That's right read it again. WHAT YOU FOCUS ON YOU CREATE MORE OF! I am not sure why it took me so long to understand what this means but it did. However, once I truly understood what it meant I knew I had all I needed to succeed. Every day I focus on a specific manifestation. It is normally one that involves my business or a personal growth skill. I also trust that in divine timing everything will fall into place. I also practice many affirmations and gratitude. See my favorite affirmation about manifesting my dreams and gratitude below. Try them out or make your own.
"My life is abundant and full of opportunities."
"I am so grateful my desires are already on their way to me. Thank you for delivering everything in divine timing."
Being the expert in your field will position you to take on the clients you feel are best for your business. It will also lead to further business growth with higher profits. And most importantly it will give you the confidence you need to continue to grow and scale your business.
